生まれつき歯が生えない患者を対象に、画期的な「歯生え薬」の臨床試験がスタートしました。

先天的に歯が不足している患者さんは、人口の0.1％（約12万人）で、多くは遺伝とされます。

京都大学スタートアップのトレジェムバイオファーマによる、歯の成長を抑えるタンパク質（USAG-1）の働きを不活発化させ、永久歯の元となる「歯胚」（歯の種）を刺激して成長を促す薬です。

Pioneered by Kyoto University-backed startup Toregem Biopharma, the drug works by inhibiting a protein (USAG-1) that typically stops tooth growth.

By deactivating this protein, the drug stimulates the dormant, vestigial tooth buds to grow new teeth.

かみ合わせや顎の発達で困難が生じる患者たちは入れ歯やインプラントに頼ってきました。

Patients face difficulties eating and properly developing their jaws. They often rely on dentures or implants as adults.

将来的には虫歯や歯周病、事故などで歯を失った方への応用も期待されています。

If safety and efficacy are successfully proven, researchers hope the drug could act as a biological replacement for traditional dentures and implants. This would eventually mean regrowing teeth lost to severe decay, gum disease, or injuries.

The research team anticipates that this tooth-regeneration therapy could be commercially available and approved for public use by 2030.
