東京都北区の区立滝野川第三小学校で19日、午前11時ごろに火災が発生しました
A fire broke out at a municipal elementary school in the Japanese capital's Kita Ward at around 11 a.m. on June 19.

Ten people were injured, including those who inhaled smoke, though none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

火元となったのは5年生がいた音楽教室の隣の音楽準備室です。
At the time of the fire, fifth-grade students were attending a music class. Investigators believe the blaze may have started in a room adjacent to the music room.

火災報知器が鳴り、防火シャッターが閉じて、階段で逃げることができなくなりました。救助袋は使われませんでした。
A fire alarm went off, but no sprinklers were installed in the room.

◇生徒らは、4階の音楽教室から、ひさしに避難しました。ひさしの幅は76センチで、フェンスはありません。
Some students evacuated to the rooftop. Students reportedly crouched down on the ledge while covering their mouths with handkerchiefs and other items while waiting to be rescued. Firefighters from the Tokyo Fire Department set up a ladder and helped the students down.

出火原因は第三者が介在しない失火。音楽準備室に、通電中の電気ストーブと送風機と、焼けた衣服がありました。
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident as a possible accidental fire after investigators found a fiber fragment attached to a plugged-in electric heater in the storage room.

報道の初期段階では、40代女性音楽教員が金管バンド（ブラスバンド）のユニフォームを乾かしていたとのことでしたが、後に、私物を持ち込み、家庭科教室の洗濯機で洗い、音楽準備室で乾かしていたことが判明しました。
The music teacher in her 40s had routinely dried private belongings after using the washing machine in the home economics room.

The incident highlighted the dangers of drying fabric items too close to heating appliances in school environments.
◇校舎は解体されることとなり、生徒たちは分散登校を余儀なくされています。
