熊本県で7月28日、マグニチュード（M）7.1の地震が発生し最大震度7を観測しました。
Following the July 28 earthquake, which registered a maximum intensity of 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale in Kumamoto Prefecture, 38 people were confirmed dead.

本震の後、活発な余震が続きました。

気象庁が、震源は約10kmと浅かったと発表しました。
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the hypocenter of the quake was at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers. While there have been reports of severed roads and collapsed buildings across the region, the full extent of the damage remains unclear.

2016年4月の熊本地震から10年。布田川断層帯と日奈久断層帯の“割れ残り”区間が動いたと言います。
Kumamoto features major active fault systems, notably the Futagawa fault zone and the Hinagu fault zone. These active faults span the region, stretching across the Kumamoto Plain and triggering significant seismic activity, including major events that produced noticeable surface ruptures（地表地震断層） and ground displacements.（地盤変異）
震度6強を観測した日本製紙八代工場では、鉄筋コンクリート製の煙突が倒壊し、従業員ら９人が犠牲になりました。
An intensity of upper 6 was felt in Kumamoto city’s Minami Ward as well as in the cities of Yatsushiro and Uto, and the towns of Misato and Mashiki. During the disaster, an 80-meter-tall reinforced concrete chimney at the Nippon Paper Industries Yatsushiro Plant collapsed, crashing into the factory buildings and resulting in 9 fatalities among the employees.

Many residents have been sheltering in their cars. Extreme summer heat in Kumamoto, combined with fractured water pipes and a lack of electricity for air conditioning, is leading to concerns that the quake-related casualty figures may rise still further as dehydration and heatstroke take their toll.
