千葉県市川市の市川市動植物園＝Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Gardenに、昨年7月に生まれた子ザルのパンチ＝Punch the baby monkeyを一目見ようと大勢の人が訪れています。
Dozens of fans flocked to the monkey enclosure to catch a glimpse of Punch, a baby Japanese macaque.

酷暑期の出産で衰弱したパンチの母が育児放棄をしたため、動物園の飼育係が人工哺育をしました。
Punch was born last July at Ichikawa Zoo. Since his mother showed no interest in raising him, zookeepers quickly stepped in and began feeding him artificially.

Baby Japanese macaques cling to their mother’s body immediately after birth to build muscle strength. They get a sense of security through holding on to something.

飼育員は、ママ代わりにパンチにオランウータンのぬいぐるみ（あだ名：オランママ）を与えました。
After being rejected by his mother, Punch now clings to a large stuffed orangutan as a substitute mom.

今年サル山に戻された後も、オランママを握って移動したり、抱きしめて眠る姿の再生回数が伸び、世界でも有名になりました。
His love for his plushie — which he clutches around the zoo and cuddles with while he sleeps — made him an internet sensation, with videos and photos of the two of them on social media racking up millions of views.

『変なものを持っている』と他のサルが警戒する中、パンチも最初は慎重でしたが、今は毛づくろいをするお友達もできました。
At first, Punch had been wary of the other monkeys. Early clips showed him wandering alone with the toy after being pushed away by others. But now he is gradually getting used to living with them and is proactively trying to blend in with the troops.
