ミラノ、コルティナ、バルテリーナ、バルディフィエメという四つの会場群において分散型＝decentralized hosting methodで冬期五輪が開催されました。（2026年2月6日〜2月22日）
The 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, hosted by the cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, made use of 25 venues across four clusters in northern Italy.

具体例で言うと、skatingというsport（競技）の中にfigure skatingやspeed skatingといったdiscipline（分野）があり、さらにmen’s singlesやpairといったevent（種目）に細分化されます。
日本代表団の結果は、金５，銀７，銅１２のメダル24個を獲得し、前回を超え、世界別メダルの順位は5位でした。
Japan earned a record number of Winter Olympics medals at 24. The Asian country clinched five golds, seven silvers and 12 bronzes, with the overall total exceeding its previous record of 18.

Snowboarding contributed the most medals to the haul, with four gold and nine overall. Kira Kimura won the men's big air to open the floodgates, followed by Kokomo Murase winning the women's event. Yuto Totsuka won the men's halfpipe and Mari Fukada the women's slopestyle in Livigno.

もう一つの金はフィギュアスケートの『りくりゅう』ペア。SPは稀な失敗で5位になりますが、完璧なフリー演技で大逆転の金でした。
Despite their preparation, disaster struck in the short program on Feb. 15. A mistake they said never occurs in practice caused a lift to falter, leaving them in a distant fifth place. Ryuichi Kihara could not hide his dismay at the result. His shoulders slumped on the ice, and his expression was grim in the media interview area. Riku Miura, however, remained calm and resolute.

On Feb. 16, The pair, affectionately known as "Rikuryu," delivered a flawless, world record-setting free skate program to vault from fifth place after a rare error in the short program and claim the historic title. Around 50 athletes and coaches from Japan attended the closing ceremony held in Verona, northern Italy, with figure skating silver medalist Kaori Sakamoto and speed skater Wataru Morishige serving as flag bearers.
